However, a team of developers known as TeamHackAce still decided to port Ice Cream Sandwich to their handset, and their hard work has finally bore fruit. The Galaxy Ace has got a working alpha build of Ice Cream Sandwich based on Android 4.0.3.

Since this is an alpha build there are quite a few issues with the ROM, but the developers are hard at fixing them. In fact they have managed to fix nearly all the major issues in the last few days. Since the Ace is low on RAM, the Ice Cream Sandwich is not as smooth as you will find it on other higher end handsets.

Also, make sure you have rooted your Galaxy Ace with ClockworkMod recovery installed before proceeding with the steps below.

Step 1: Download the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich Alpha ROM for the Galaxy Ace from here. Once downloaded, transfer the file to your phone’s memory card.

Step 2: Reboot into CWM (ClockWorkMod) Recovery Mode. To do so, turn off your Ace and re-insert the battery. Now press the press Home key + Power button simultaneously, and the handset will automatically boot into Recovery mode.

Step 3: Navigate in CWM mode using the Volume keys and select an option by pressing the Home button. Select the ‘Wipe Data/Factory Reset’ option and then select Yes. Now format the /system partition option, which is located under ‘Mounts and Storage’.

Step 4: Now select the “Install Zip from SDCARD” option and then select “Choose zip from sdcard”. Now select the ICS ROM zip file which you had transferred in Step 1 to your phone and flash it. Once the ROM is flashed, reboot your phone. The first boot will take sometime so please be patient.

Voila! You have successfully managed to install Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on your Galaxy Ace.
